About

🌏 Welcome to the Gaijin Career Club

Not everyone finds their way into a career in Japan through the front door (the typical shūkatsu way). And that's okay.

This is a space for internationally-minded people building a career in Japan across social media, product, advertising, marketing, education, and design. Whatever your role, whatever your background, whatever timeline got you here, you're welcome. Your non-linear path is something to be proud of, not something to explain away.

Maybe you're a student still figuring out where to start. Maybe you're an early career professional stuck in the rejection loop. Maybe you just never quite fit the traditional mould. Whoever you are, welcome. 💛

🌱 Two Ways to Join

DOUKI — Free forever

For anyone trying to understand how Japan's job market really works, especially if the traditional path wasn't built for you. You'll find a community feed to read and post in, people at the same stage as you, and starter resources that actually make sense for where you're at.

NAKAMA — ¥650/month

For when you're ready for a little more support, and don't want to figure this all out on your own anymore.

You'll get everything in DOUKI, plus weekly live Q&As with Annie, deep-dive Senpai Notes editions you won't find anywhere else, members-only workshops and career events, and a resource vault full of templates, guides, and Japan market intel.

It's less than the cost of one dinner out. 🍜 And if you join now, your ¥650/month rate stays yours for as long as you're here, even if the price goes up later.

💬 Who's Behind This

She built her own way in, and now she wants to help you build yours.

Group Rules

Be real, not performative

Share where you actually are, the rejections, the confusion, the small wins that feel too small to celebrate anywhere else. This space grows when people are honest.

Stay on the journey

Keep it grounded in your Japan career path, your applications, interviews, portfolio struggles, visa stress, company research. If it's part of figuring out your way here, it belongs.

Share yourself, not just your links

Self-promotion is welcome when it adds value. Drop context, not just URLs. This isn't a marketing channel, it's a community.

Respect the struggle

Everyone here is navigating something hard. Respond the way you'd want to be responded to at your lowest point in the job hunt. No "just get N1" energy here.

Speak from experience, not assumption

Share what worked for you, but be clear it's your experience, not a universal rule. Japan's job market is nuanced. Your path is yours.

Ask Annie in the right place

For personalized advice, ask in the weekly Q&A or schedule a coaching session with Annie. It keeps the community useful for everyone and makes sure your question gets a real answer.

Give as much as you take

You don't have to post every day. But when someone asks something you can answer, answer it. This place is only as good as what people put in
